Fuel For Electricity Generation

Wood chips at a pulp mill near to Nanaimo

A 250 MW wood-fired generating station would require over 4000 tonnes of wood or about 75 rail-cars worth of fuel every day.

Moving this amount of fuel around wouldn't be a great idea, but it isn't actually necessary.  Instead small wood-fired generating plants could be built to burn waste wood materials at several of the many sawmills on the island, without the requirement for any transportation.
