Coal
"Clean Coal"

Various processes have been developed in the past few decades to decrease the environmental impact of coal burning.

These types of processes are intended to make coal burning "clean".  All of them go at least part of the way towards this objective, and some appear to reduce emissions to almost zero, with the one important exception of carbon dioxide.  It is possible to separate and capture carbon dioxide in some of these situations, but there is still the issue of what to do with it.  Underground storge (sequestration) is a possibility, but this is expensive and may not be practical in many situations.
