The BC Energy Plan of 2007 states that any coal-fired electricity plant developed in BC must have zero emissions. This means no sulphur, nitrogen or trace-metal pollutants, and it also means that all carbon dioxide produced during combustion must be safely and permanently stored deep underground. This requirement adds significantly to the cost of coal-fierd electricity.
