BC Hydro, Fortis BC, the Federal Government, the Provincial Government, local governments and many other institutions have programs in place to encourage consumers and businesses to save energy. These programs include legislation, public relations and subsidies, and for many of the measures that they advocate, the costs to the institutions for each kWh saved are considerably less than the cost of new electricty generation.
Consumers may have to shoulder some costs, but in almost all cases they end up saving money in the long run because their energy consumption is reduced.
