    If you are trying to open .doc or .ppt from home and you do not have Microsoft Office or Microsoft Powerpoint, you may have problems opening files from your course. A good alternative is OpenOffice, which is an open source office suite, which means that it is free! You may download OpenOffice from here, and you will be able to view all word (.doc) and powerpoints (.ppt).
