    An introduction to the tourism industry. Topics include: tourism terminology; issues and trends in British Columbia; tourism guest characteristics; the eight sectors of the BC tourism industry; key tourism organizations and their influence; impacts of tourism; and tourism related products.


  • CONV 103  Celebrating Community And Culture


    Current Section(s): F10W01

    An exploration of how communities and cultures within those communities can be effectively included in special events. Topics include: assessing the community environment; communities as assets to special events; socio-cultural impacts of tourism and events; cross-cultural communication; and adding a cultural element to special events. Credit will only be granted for one of TOUR 153, RMGT 153 or CONV 103. (2:1:0)


  • CONV 105  Event Law And Risk Management

    An exploration of legal and risk management issues involved in planning and hosting tourism events. Credit will only be granted for one of TOUR 226, RMGT 226 or CONV 105.



  • TRMT 392  Programming and Services for Seniors

    An examination of the leisure behaviours of seniors to determine how to plan for the provision of services for this sub-population. Population analysis and market segmentation is used as a means of determining participant functioning characteristics and participant needs, interests, and skills.



  • TRMT 450  Volunteer Management

    An opportunity to engender an appreciation and understanding of the volunteerism movement. Specific skills are developed to meet the present and future needs of public and private sector use of volunteers. The application of management skills, training, education and professional development are addressed.

    TRMT 475 examines the relationship between leisure behaviour and lifestyle management through the consideration and examination of critical workplace health issues in the recreation and tourism fields.
